O&M Services / What We Do / O&M Services / Sugar Plant Operation At Uttam Sucrotech, we specialize in delivering efficient and sustainable operations and maintenance solutions for sugar plants, ensuring maximum productivity, reliability and environmental responsibility. The sugar production process begins when the harvested sugarcane is transported to the Sugar Plants. From here, the cane undergoes a series of advanced processing steps to extract and refine sugar. Cane Preparation & Juice Extraction Sugarcane is initially prepared in fibrous form using cane cutters and a fibrizer. Juice is extracted through a milling tandem comprising 3, 4, or 6 rollers. The extracted juice, mixed with water, is then transferred to the boiling house for processing. 2. Juice Treatment & Clarification The raw juice is heated and treated with milk of lime, sulphur dioxide, or phosphoric acid to remove impurities. After further heating, the treated juice is sent to clarifiers for continuous settling. Clear juice collected from the clarifier is concentrated into syrup through multiple-effect evaporators. 3. Crystallization & Sugar Recovery The syrup is bleached with approved chemicals and sent to vacuum pans for concentration and sugar crystal formation. Crystals are separated from molasses using centrifugal machines, then dried, graded, weighed, and packed for storage and distribution. 4. By-products Utilization Press Mud: Residue from clarifiers, used as organic manure in cane fields, supporting sustainable farming practices. Bagasse: Fibrous residue from cane crushing, used as a primary fuel for steam generation in boilers. This reduces dependence on the state electricity board and promotes energy self-reliance. Molasses: A valuable by-product further fermented and distilled to produce alcohols, industrial spirits, and ethanol for blending with petroleum products. Sugar Plant Maintenance Efficient plant maintenance is the backbone of uninterrupted production in a sugar plant. At Uttam Sucrotech, we implement proven strategies and best practices to ensure smooth operations, minimize downtime and extend the lifecycle of critical equipment. Our maintenance approach covers all aspects of plant upkeep, from preventive measures to corrective actions, ensuring reliability and safety throughout the crushing season. 1. Off-Season Maintenance (Planned Maintenance) During the off-season, the entire plant is systematically dismantled, repaired and reassembled. This planned maintenance ensures that equipment is fully optimized and ready for the next crushing cycle. 2. Preventive Maintenance (During Season) A proactive set of activities carried out on machinery and systems before failures occur. Helps protect plant assets, enhance reliability and reduce unexpected breakdowns. 3. Running Maintenance (During Season) Routine activities performed while the equipment is in operation. Ensures uninterrupted production and immediate attention to minor issues before they escalate. 4. Scheduled/Shutdown Maintenance Involves planned inspections and repairs during scheduled shutdowns. Targets equipment that is known or suspected to have potential issues, ensuring safe and efficient operation. 5. Corrective Maintenance Actions such as repair, replacement, or restoration carried out after a failure has occurred. Aims to eliminate the root cause of failure and reduce the likelihood of recurrence. International project / Projects / International Projects / Kakira Sugar Ltd., Uganda / Kakira Sugar Ltd., Uganda One of Africa’s largest sugarcane milling tandems Uttam Sucrotech was commissioned one of Africa’s largest milling tandems for Kakira Sugar Limited, the flagship company of the legendary Madhwani Group of Uganda. The tandem consists of 5 mills of size 50” x 100”. Each of these Uttam mills weighs approximately 220 tons (equivalent to the weight of 35 African elephants) and the tandem is designed to crush 8,500 tons of sugarcane every day. To avoid any re-work at project site and to ensure meticulous erection, each of these mills was pre-assembled and then dis-mantled at our manufacturing facilities and then shipped to Uganda. The plant is already operating at its full capacity, a testament to the exceptional performance of Uttam's state-of-the-art equipment. This remarkable feature, seen across all plants established by us, underscores our dedication to manufacturing equipment that is not only high-quality but also operationally efficient from the very moment of start-up.

Strategically located about 168 km from Khartoum , on the east side of the White Nile River near Abu Hebera Village, White Nile State, the project spans nearly 250,000 acres of land. Its vast reach extends from 50 km south of Al Kawa Town up to the Khartoum–Rabak highway. The White Nile Sugar Plant was formally inaugurated on July 11, 2012 , by the President Omar al-Bashir. Designed as the largest Greenfield sugar project in Africa , it is also recognized as one of the most energy-efficient sugar plants in the world. Uttam Sucrotech served as the EPC contractor for this mega project, which includes a 24,000 TCD sugarcane crushing plant and the world’s largest bagasse-based power generation facility of 104 MW. Salient Features of the Project: Location: White Nile State, Sudan Plant Capacity: 24,000 TCD Juice Extraction: 12 Nos. – 45” × 90” Mills in 2 Tandems Power Co-generation: 104 MW (bagasse-based) Positive Impact on the Region: Sudan’s annual sugar consumption is approximately 1.2 million tonnes. At full capacity, the White Nile Sugar Plant produces 450,000 tonnes of sugar annually , bridging the gap with local production (800,000 tonnes) and enabling self-sufficiency. The project has the potential to eliminate sugar imports and create opportunities for exports , generating additional foreign exchange for the nation. By supporting local out-grower farmers with free irrigation facilities, the project fosters agricultural development and sustainable livelihoods. It has created thousands of employment opportunities, playing a vital role in poverty reduction and the socio-economic upliftment of the region. The Plant was inaugurated on 1st May 2022, by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana – Shri Manohar Lal Khattar. It is a state-of-the-art sugar plant of 5,000 TCD capacity (expandable to 7,500 TCD), with a power co-generation plant of 28 MW power. Within days of commissioning, the plant is already performing at its full capacity. This is a typical feature of all plants set up by UTTAM where the sugar mill attains full capacity at the very moment of start-up. This is testimony to the high-quality equipment manufactured by Uttam’s state-of-the-art workshops. 100% of the sugar manufacturing equipment installed in the Panipat Sugar Mill has been manufactured in Uttam’s own state-of-the-art workshops – which are 100% equipped with CNC automatic machines. No other sugar equipment manufacturer in India can boast of such facilities. The result is that Uttam sugar equipment is of the highest quality.

The Plant was inaugurated in November 2019, by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of U. P. Shri Yogi Adityanath. The plant is being operated and maintained by USIPL. The factory has created a record power cogeneration along with sugar production. The Plant has crushed 83 lakhs quintals of sugarcane, which is 76% higher over the previous season. The recovery of the sugar is also increased to 10.77% from 9.19%, helping bag 8.94 lakhs quintals of sugar, which is more then double from the previous year production. The factory has also earned an additional revenue of Rs. 15.0 crore on account of export of electricity from its new cogeneration plant. The factory with the increased crushing capacity has helped directly or indirectly about 40,000 farmers in the region and last 3 years. It has consistently won the national award for the best-performing sugar mill in U.P. It has achieved the highest crushing – reaching almost 100 lakh quintal of sugar-cane in the last crushing season of 2021 - 2022
